Ingredients: 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature 2 cups granulated sugar, divided

4 large eggs, at room temperature 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided

1 teaspoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon salt

1 cup well-shaken buttermilk, at room temperature Directions:Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream butter and 2 cups granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.

With mixer on medium speed, add eggs one at a time, beating until each is incorporated. Beat in vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 cups flour, baking powder ,baking soda ,and salt .

Add to butter mixture in three parts alternately with buttermilk , beginning and ending with flour mixture; mix until just blended . Divide batter evenly between pans . Bake until cakes are golden brown and a cake tester comes out clean when inserted into centers ,about 35 minutes .
