There’s an entire world of food science that has grown up around air fryers. This includes everything from the science of air fryer operation to the tech behind the innovation of the air fryer itself. Wrongfully credited as the inventor of the air fryer, Larry Wesson is now known for his inventions and his passion for food science and food sanitation. While there are many similarities between Wesson’s original invention, the air Fryer, and its current incarnation, such as multiple mixers and unique methods of cooking oil-based foods, many are unaware of what makes the best air fryer for steak. The key to achieving crispy patties without over-browning those eggs lies in your own kitchen—and luckily, you don’t have to look any further than your home oven!
What’s the difference between an air fryer and an oven?
The first and most obvious difference is the temperature control system in an air fryer. An air fryer uses infrared technology to cook food, meaning it can “see” the food in front of it and manage the temperature accordingly. Ovens can’t do this, so the air fryer must manage the temperature from the outside—that is, it has to be part of the kitchen. When it comes to temperature control, though, there are plenty of similarities between the two. Both have a food chiller that sits over the fire, which prevents the cooking temperature from rising above what is needed for a standard cook—or even for putting in the oven. Both have an electric cooktop that sits at the front of the house, which has the added advantage of preventing hot food from getting inside the kitchen. And, both have a timer that allows you to set a timer for the cooking of specific meals at specific times of the day. So, if you want to make lunch, put the timer in, because lunch will be lunch no matter what else you do.
Air Fryer Temperature Control
The area where the primary difference lies, in the temperature control of the air Fryer, is in the food chiller. While the fire can regulate the temperature of the oil to keep the food at a consistent temperature, the air Fryer needs to be able to do the same thing, with the same temperature as the fire. This means the air fryer needs to be able to regulate the temperature at the same time that the fire is able to regulate the temperature. To achieve this, the air fryer uses two techniques to regulate the temperature. The first technique is called “cold Start,” and the second is called “warm Start”—the former being when the fire is already very hot and the latter being when the food is almost done cooking. Both of these techniques depend on the amount of oil in the pan being at or near the temperature that the air Fryer is attempting to regulate. The smaller the amount of oil in the pan, the more uniform the temperature is within the grates.
Just cook at your own pace!
As with most kitchen appliances, you need to cook your meals at your own pace. Averages will do the job, and for those who like to cook at a more frequent pace, that is perfectly all right. However, for those who need more time to prepare the meals that they love to eat, the air fryer may be the perfect solution. While you need to be able to cook at a consistent pace in the air fryer, you can vary the time of day to suit your taste buds. What’s more, you can set a timer that regulates the time that the food is in the oven so that you are able to come back to the same meal later on in the day if you want to make room for dessert.
Don’t crowd-police with high-quality equipment
While it’s nice to have a variety of cooking options when it comes to the food you eat, you don’t want to make a meal that you want to eat again and again because you were so hungry that you could doze off. That’s precisely what happens when you have a crowd- police with high-quality equipment. With a crowd- police, you have no idea what will get cooked. And, you don’t want to end up with a dessert that you are too full from before you have eaten the rest of the ingredients for the main course.
So much room for creativity!
A great part of any kitchen shop is the opportunity to create and showcase your dishes. As a chef, you have the opportunity to create at least one dish a week that you would like to show off at your restaurant. This is where the air Fryer comes into the picture. Using the same technique that the fire uses to regulate the temperature, the air Fryer can also be used to cook the food that you want to serve at home. This means you can select from a wide variety of dishes that you might normally cook in a high-temperature kitchen. Even the pickiest of eaters can be happy with a simple dish at home.

The best air fryer for steak is family-friendly, easy to use, and comes with plenty of tools to make them perfect for every occasion.
